Materials & system options

- James Hardie fiber cement siding — available through Saia & Sons as a premium option known for durability and a different aesthetic profile than vinyl. Saia & Sons Restoration does not currently claim James Hardie certification; we source and install Hardie fiber-cement products per manufacturer specifications.

Product comparison
Vinyl is generally lower cost upfront and low-maintenance, but can crack or fade over time and has limits in extreme temperature swings. Fiber cement is heavier, more rigid, and holds paint and color differently, but comes at a higher material and installation cost. Neither is universally "better" — it depends on your budget, the look you want, and how long you plan to be in the home.
Installation standards
Siding is installed per applicable building requirements and manufacturer specifications, including manufacturer-specified fastening patterns, clearances above grade and other surfaces, and proper flashing and house wrap integration. Local permit and code requirements vary by jurisdiction, and manufacturer instructions vary by product — we follow the specific requirements that apply to your project.
Repair limitations & existing-material matching
If only a section of siding is damaged, a targeted repair is sometimes possible. But siding — especially vinyl — fades over time, and older profiles are sometimes discontinued. An exact color and profile match isn't always available, so a repaired section may be visibly different from the rest of the wall. We'll tell you that upfront rather than let you find out after the fact. In cases where matching isn't realistic, we may recommend a broader replacement, such as one full wall or elevation, for a consistent look.
Maintenance
Vinyl siding generally needs occasional washing and inspection for cracks or loose panels. Fiber cement typically requires periodic repainting or recaulking per manufacturer guidance and inspection at trim and joints. Neither product is maintenance-free, and neglecting basic upkeep can shorten its useful life.
