Restoring What Matters Most.
Storm Damage Restoration in Crown Point & Northwest Indiana
After a hailstorm or high-wind event, you need a clear, honest read on what actually happened to your roof, siding, and gutters — not a sales pitch dressed up as an inspection. Saia & Sons Restoration provides photo-documented storm damage assessments for homeowners across Lake and Porter Counties, whether or not you end up filing an insurance claim.
Common problems after a storm
- Hail bruising or fractures on shingles
- Creased shingles from high wind
- Missing or torn-off shingles
- Granule loss concentrated after a hail event
- Dented, cracked, or torn siding panels
- Bent, torn, or detached gutters and downspouts
- Damaged or lifted flashing at chimneys and walls
- Damaged or knocked-loose fascia and soffit
- Debris impact damage from fallen branches
What we inspect
- Roof surface for hail bruising, creasing, and shingle displacement
- Siding for dents, cracks, and panel separation
- Gutters and downspouts for denting, detachment, and drainage issues
- Flashing at chimneys, walls, and roof penetrations
- Fascia and soffit for impact or wind damage
- Overall measurements of affected roof and wall areas
All findings are photo-documented when conditions safely allow, and we take measurements to support an accurate, independent construction estimate.
What's included
- Full exterior storm damage inspection
- Photo documentation of all visible damage
- Roof and wall measurements
- A written construction estimate reflecting actual observed damage and current material/labor costs
- Comparison of our estimate against a carrier's estimate, if you provide one, so you can see where they differ and why
- Guidance on repair-versus-replacement based on the extent of damage
- Emergency stabilization discussion, where applicable and within its real limitations
Emergency stabilization limitations
If you have active water intrusion after a storm, we can discuss temporary stabilization measures like tarping. These are stopgaps, not repairs — they reduce further damage but have real limitations in continued high wind or heavy rain, and a permanent fix should be scheduled as soon as possible.
Adjuster meetings & carrier-estimate comparisons
We can meet with your insurance adjuster on-site to walk through the damage we documented and answer questions about our findings. If your carrier provides their own estimate, we'll compare it against our independent construction estimate so you can see any differences in scope or pricing. That comparison is informational — it's meant to help you understand what's being proposed, not to argue your claim on your behalf.
Materials & system options
Repair or replacement materials depend on what was damaged — GAF roofing systems for roof damage, vinyl or James Hardie fiber cement for siding, aluminum gutters, and matching fascia/soffit components. See our Roofing, Siding, Gutters, and Fascia, Soffit & Flashing pages for details on each system.
Installation standards
Any repair or replacement work following storm damage is installed per applicable building requirements and manufacturer specifications, the same as any other project — storm-related work doesn't get a different standard.
Repair vs. replacement after a storm
Isolated damage — a handful of missing shingles, one damaged gutter section — is often a straightforward repair. Widespread hail bruising across a roof slope, or damage affecting multiple systems, more often points toward replacement being the practical choice. We'll base that recommendation on what we actually observe and measure, not on what maximizes the estimate.
Warranty information
Enhanced GAF warranties are available on qualifying roofing systems installed as part of storm repair or replacement work, subject to manufacturer terms. Siding, gutter, and fascia/soffit materials carry their own manufacturer warranty terms. Saia & Sons backs its installation labor with a workmanship warranty regardless of whether the job originated from storm damage. See our warranties page for full details.
Insurance considerations
This is the part we want to be completely clear about: Saia & Sons Restoration provides construction inspections, photographs, measurements, estimates, and project documentation. Coverage decisions remain between the homeowner and the insurance carrier. Saia & Sons Restoration does not act as a public adjuster, interpret insurance coverage, negotiate insurance claims on behalf of homeowners, or guarantee claim approval.
A few things homeowners should know going in:
- You are responsible for your own deductible under your policy. We do not waive or cover deductibles.
- We do not guarantee that any claim will be approved, in whole or in part.
- If you believe damage is being misrepresented — by any party, including exaggerating undamaged areas as storm-related — that's insurance fraud, and we won't participate in or encourage it. Our documentation reflects what we actually observe.
- Filing a claim is your decision. We're here to give you an honest, photo-documented picture of the damage and a real construction estimate so you can make that decision with good information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you guarantee my insurance claim gets approved?
No. We don't guarantee claim approval, and we're not a public adjuster — that decision is between you and your carrier. We provide honest documentation and an independent estimate to support your understanding of the damage.
Do you waive my deductible?
No. Your deductible is your responsibility under your policy. We do not waive or cover deductibles.
Will you negotiate with my insurance company for me?
No. We don't negotiate claims on behalf of homeowners or interpret your coverage. We can meet with your adjuster to walk through our documented findings, but the claim conversation is between you and your carrier.
How is storm damage different from normal wear?
Storm damage typically shows a distinct pattern — hail bruising, creasing from wind uplift, or physical impact damage — that's different from gradual wear like granule loss from age or general weathering. We document what we see and let the evidence speak for itself.
What if my carrier's estimate is lower than yours?
We'll show you where our independent estimate differs from the carrier's and why, based on our measurements and observed damage. What you do with that information — including whether to appeal — is your call.
Can you tarp my roof right after a storm?
We can discuss temporary stabilization measures like tarping for active leaks. It's a stopgap with real limitations, not a permanent fix, and should be followed by a scheduled repair or replacement.
